What force wipe means today

Today is Thursday, June 4, 2026, the first Thursday of the month. That makes it Rust force wipe day for the monthly update cycle.

For players, the important part is simple: servers reset into a new race, server populations spike, and the best fresh-wipe windows are usually the first few hours after the update lands.

The fastest way to pick a server

Do not pick only by the highest population. On force wipe, check freshness, region, queue, map size, rules, and whether the server is vanilla or modded before committing your group.

What changed in the June update

Facepunch's June 4 devblog is called Built Different. The headline changes are new player models and animations, a loot-only M16A2, loot-only Ballistic and BDU gear, Unity 6 work, server and UI performance improvements, and a new navmesh path that is disabled by default.

There is also a practical performance warning: high polling rate mice at 1000Hz or above can currently cause CPU overhead and frame drops, so Facepunch recommends lowering polling below 1000Hz while they investigate.

Best force-wipe join strategy

If you want the cleanest start, pick your target server before the wipe, keep the connect command ready, and join as soon as the server returns.

If you are late, do not panic. Fresh servers keep appearing after force wipe because many communities stagger weekly, biweekly, and special wipes around the official update window.
